A clearer starting point

Body composition peptides, explained.

Understand the product before choosing care

First, know what “peptides” means

Amino acids are the units that form proteins; a peptide is a short chain of those units.

In US care, a product’s approval or legal status cannot be read from the word “peptide” alone, as of September 2026.

The useful questions are simpler: What is the exact medicine? What is it meant to treat? Who will review my health before we decide?

FDA stands for Food and Drug Administration, the US agency responsible for reviewing medicines.

Is peptide care a real thing?

FDA-approved medicines as of September 2026 include semaglutide, sold as Ozempic or Wegovy, and tirzepatide, sold as Mounjaro or Zepbound.

Approval belongs to a particular product and use, rather than to “peptide therapy” as a whole.

A prescription and a research label are different

With compounding, a doctor or pharmacist prepares medicine to order rather than supplying a finished product that has approval.

As of September 2026, compounded products do not have FDA approval, though compounding can meet a specific medical need under legal conditions.

Some weight-loss products labelled “for research purposes” or “not for human consumption” are still offered for people to take.

Those labels mean research, not personal treatment. FDA guidance checked in September 2026 warns people to avoid these products because their quality has not been established and use may cause harm.
